Bicester Garden Town - Outdoor Cinema - The Magnificent Seven, Garth Park, Bicester - Friday 1st September 2017

Enjoy “The King of Cool” Steve McQueen at his best as Garth Park transforms into the wild west for an open air screening of The Magnificent Seven.
It’s showing tomorrow (Friday) at 7.30pm, bringing our Film Fridays programme to a dramatic close.
The programme is funded by Cherwell District Council through Bicester’s Garden Town status, helping people to make the most of social, outdoor spaces while the summer sun still shines.
The screenings are delivered in partnership with @millartscentre – whose staff are running the screening and the box office, and supported by Bicester Town Council which has provided access to Garth Park.
People are recommended to book in advance, which will entitle them to free parking at the Claremont and Cattlemarket car parks from 5pm. It’s also a good idea to bring picnic blankets and cushions to make yourselves comfortable.
Tickets are £5 per person or £20 per family and the movie starts at 7.30pm. Children up to three years of age will be able to enter free of charge. You can book in advance through the Mill Arts Centre’s box office, although tickets will also be available on the door.

eco Bicester/Healthy Bicester - Cycle Routes

It is never too early or too late to get onto a bike. The health benefits from active travel as well as the environmental advantages for the community are significant. Many cycle lines go through the whole Bicester making it one of the most cycle-friendly towns in the Oxfordshire.
There are currently 4 cycle routes within the series, the Bronze, Silver and Gold routes and the addition of ht e Langford route.
Cyclists are encouraged to start with the Bronze route and progress to the Silver and ultimately Gold route as they increase in both confidence and experience.

Bicester already has a well-established network of cycle paths and these routes are intended to link existing routes and encourage cyclists to explore and create routes of their own.

Please follow this link to download and print off the routes

If you are a novice in cycling or haven’t cycled for a long time, contact Bicester Social Cycling http://www.cyclinguk.org/local-groups/bicester-social-cycling for help, advice or guidance.
This group aims at encouraging people out on social cycle rides and it is open to all abilities and non-competitive.

Healthy New Town Programme - Claim Your FREE "Healthy Bicester" mug

With the summer holidays on the doorstep, Healthy Bicester has come up with a challenge competition which is free and fun for all the family.
Residents in Bicester are invited to explore the main green areas in the town with the chance to win a Fitbit or a family swim pass for Bicester Leisure Centre.
As part of the Healthy New Town Programme, Cherwell District Council is launching the 'Green Spaces Challenge'. To enter the competition residents have to visit all the 11 green spaces marked on the flyer that will be distributed in Bicester over the summer.
However, just visiting these places will not be enough to get a prize. People are requested to do some exercise in there: walking, skipping, jogging, playing or using an outdoor gym are all fine. Residents have until 4 September to complete the challenge.
Cllr Barry Wood, leader of Cherwell District Council said: "Through this challenge, we are calling for more people to explore the many green spaces in Bicester and have fun outside. The Healthy New Town programme aims to make Bicester a better place to live, work and play and we want residents to feel part of it.
"Bicester has got a lot of nice footpaths, playgrounds, open spaces and outdoor gym equipment. We want Bicester residents to be aware of what is on hand for them. Getting outside and exploring the town's green spaces is free and something the whole family can enjoy."
Everyone who completes the challenge will win a Healthy Bicester mug by taking a picture in each green area while doing their activities and posting it on Facebook or Twitter tagging #HealthyBicester.
To claim the Healthy Bicester mug and enter into a prize draw for a Fitbit and family swim vouchers, people need to email 11 photos picturing them in each green space to healthynewtown@cherwell-dc.gov.uk specifying where each photo has been taken.
For more information about the Green Space Challenge email healthynewtown@cherwell-dc.gov.uk.

Cherwell District Council - Animal Welfare

Did you know that dog theft has risen by 24 percent nationally in the last three years?
So, the council is reminding residents that, since last year, microchipping and tagging their dogs have been legal requirements to help increase the chances of finding a lost or stolen dog.
Dog owners are also recommended to be considerate of other walkers and keep their dogs under proper control as the council has already received several reports of dog on dog attacks and out of control dog issues.
In order to facilitate the rescue of a lost dog, in addition to microchips and security tags, owners are advised to take pictures of their dogs from various angles. These can be used to advertise the missing dogs and prove ownership.
Further information can be found on the Animal Welfare web page of Cherwell’s website at http://www.cherwell.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=1642
